Grammy-winning rock and blues guitarist Jonny Lang has a holiday treat for his fans — a free download of his song Seasons, available exclusively through USA TODAY.

Seasons is a different kind of holiday song, about a man who struggles with conflicting emotions during the holidays, watching the children “carrying on without a care” around a decorated house and tree while dwelling on his own shortcomings. The song appears on Fight for My Soul, Lang’s first studio album in seven years.

Lang says he initially wrote Seasons as a therapeutic exercise, never intending to put it on an album. But producer Tommy Sims eventually convinced him to include it on Fight for My Soul, and Lang has since called it the album track of which he’s most proud.

Lang’s first studio album in seven years, Fight For My Soul, was just released last week via Mascot Label Group.  The album was named BBC Radio 2’s Album Of The Week upon its release.

Over a period of three years, Lang collaborated with producer/songwriter Tommy Sims (who co-wrote Eric Clapton’s GRAMMY-winning “Change the World”) crafting the album’s elegant rock ‘n’ soul tracks from the ground up.

Textured arrangements, gorgeous vocal melodies, and expressive guitar playing are all found in generous abundance on Fight For My Soul, however, the album defies categorization by a single genre.

“This album is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” offers Lang. “Some of these songs may surprise people, but that’s what it’s all about.  It keeps it fresh, and it keeps me growing.  Creatively, I think there is a lot more going on inside of me than I’ve been sharing on record so far.  Much of what I’ve experienced through music and life in general is in these songs.”

Since the release of his 1997 major label debut “Lie To Me”, the then 16 year-old Lang has built a reputation as one of the best live performers and guitarists of his generation.

GUITAR WORLD: Exclusive: Jonny Lang Premieres “Blew Up (The House)” Lyric Video

JL_bUTH_lyricvid_1Today, GuitarWorld.com presents the exclusive premiere of Jonny Lang’s new lyric video for “Blew Up (The House).”

The track is from Lang’s new album, Fight For My Soul, which will be released September 17 by Concord Music Group.

Fight For My Soul is Lang’s first studio album in seven years.

“This particular record has taken quite a long time to finish for a lot of different reasons,” Lang said. “Most of all, I started having kids a few years back. Between being with the family, and being out on the road touring, the last thing you want to do when home is to go make a record. I’m really happy with the body of work we have for this one. It’s kind of hard to be excited and know what the record is going to be like when the process is extended over such a long period of time. Today, sitting here, I’m really proud of the recordings.”

Lang has been working on the album for three years with producer Tommy Sims, who co-wrote Eric Clapton’s “Change the World.” The duo collaborated on the project from the ground up.

“Much of what I’ve experienced through music and life in general is in these songs,” Lang said about the new album. “I really like reaching out and connecting with people. For me, this is what it’s all about. It keeps it fresh with different experiences every day.”

Fight For My Soul is available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Along with a full North American tour schedule, Lang will embark on an extended European tour in October.
